This board uses addresses A0000-AFFFF and B0000-C7FFF, which might be
an issue if the Above Board is providing expanded memory.
PARADISE
PARADISE EGA AUTOSWITCH BOARD
*FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards.
Tech Notes
Paradise tech support {ph: (800) 356-5787} supplied the reserved memory
addresses this EGA uses. Memory Address: A0000 - C3FFFF
NOTE: If a memory size error occurs during IBM Setup program, try
disabling the "AUTOSWITCH" feature of the PARADISE board, temporarily.
There is a 5 position switch on the board to do this. After completing
the SETUP program, it can be re-enabled.
PARADISE MONOCHROME AUTOSWITCH

Tech Notes:
This board is apparently able to emulate an EGA or CGA board, as well
as operate as a monochrome adapter. It has ROM from C0000-C3FFFh, just
like an EGA board, and uses the A0000-BFFFFh spaces for Video Ram.
PARADISE MODULAR GRAPHICS BOARD
*FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards.
Tech Notes: One customer report that this board uses C0000 to C4000
memory addresses.
PARADISE VGA (8-BIT BOARD)
Compatible with Above Boards.
Tech Notes:
Has ROM BIOS addresses C0000-C7FFFh. This is an 8-bit board that works
in PC/XT machines as well as AT machines. It has no conflicts with the
AB products except the addresses occupied by the BIOS, as noted above.
PARADISE VGA PLUS 16
*FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards.
This board can be operated with the BIOS configured for either 8-bit or
16-bit modes. The PARADISE manual clearly states that you cannot
operate this board in the 16-bit mode if you have ANY other boards that
have RAM or ROM in the C0000-DFFFF address range. This board needs to
be set for 8-bit mode if the Above Board is supplying any expanded
memory.
To set this Paradise board to 8-bit mode, move jumper W1, (located in
the lower left corner of the board), so that it covers BOTH PINS.
Additionally, SW1-4 on the switch block must be set to the OFF position
to force 8-bit operation.
Appendix B (pp 42-44) in the Paradise manual explains the restrictions
in detail. Urge the customer to read this section if they are unhappy
about having to put their VGA board in 8-bit mode.
PARADISE VGA PROFESSIONAL 16 BIT
Compatible with AB. BIOS occupies C0000-C7FFFh. AB will conflict with
the VGA in 16 bit mode. Put VGA in 8 bit mode by setting switch #4 to
the OFF position. Performance is not hurt because Paradise provides a
caching feature for the ROM BIOS.
PARADISE 8514

8514 uses ROM @ C8800-C9FFF or D8800-D9FFF.

Tech Notes:
Paradise manual says if using EMS board, place BIOS jumper 1 over both
pins. Summary of Paradise manual Appendix B switch settings:
Switch 4 on switch block allows selection of 8 bit mode To force 8 bit
mode: cover both pins of Jumper W1 and set switch 4 OFF switch 4 ON
lets the board automatically choose 8 or 16 bit. Jumper W1 controls
automatic versus manual selection of 8 and 16 bit mode. Both pins
covered = automatic One pin covered = manual (forces 16 bit always)
PHOTON ULTIMA TURBO VGA
*FIELD REPORT* of compatibility with Above Boards. The Photon Ultima
Turbo VGA is by Personal Computer Graphics Corp. Tech support ph.
(213) 216-0042.
If you are using EMM.SYS for expanded memory, EMM.SYS will require the
"16BIT=" parameter. You must have EMM version 4.0 rev C, (disk label
dated 5/89) or later. For more information on the "16BIT=" parameter

QUADRAM
QUADRAM COLOR PALLETTE
Incompatible with ALL memory boards providing expanded memory, although
it may work if providing extended memory.
QUADRAM QEGA PLUS
According to customer report, this EGA board is incompatible with
Expanded memory. ABs can provide conventional and extended memory in a
machine equipped with this video board.
QUADRAM QUADSTREAM
*FIELD REPORTS* that this video adapter is INCOMPATIBLE with Expanded
memory.
Uses Hex addresses C0000-E0000 so AB has no place for page frame. Above
Boards can provide conventional and extended memory in a machine
equipped with this video card.
RENAISSANCE
RENAISSANCE RENDITION I
The Renaissance Rendition I plus graphics engine is compatible to AB
products. Renaissance makes extensive use of EMS memory so it is
recommended that the user have LOTS of EMS. Uses memory range A000-
C400.
RENAISSANCE RENDITION II
*FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards.
Tech Notes:
The Renaissance Rendition II is a 16 bit board. This board must be set
for 8 bit reserved memory accesses in order to work with an AB.
Renaissance makes extensive use of EMS memory so it is recommended that
the user have LOTS of EMS. Uses memory range A000-C400 for ROM and C800
and up for shared RAM. The Rendition user manual has a section on
installing with the Intel AB.

RENAISSANCE RGX VGA
**Field report** of compatibility with Above Boards. NOTE: the 16-bit
ROM feature on the RGX VGA has to be disabled when the RGX VGA is
installed into a 16-bit slot and an Above Board is set up for EMS.
This is necessary because the RGX VGA doesn't do a true 16bit reserved
memory access, it fluctuates between 8- and 16-bit accesses. If it did
a true 16bit access there wouldn't be a need to force it into 8bit
mode.
VGA MEMORY USAGE
Some general info:
VGA's in general use ALL of A0000 to BFFFF for video data. These guys
tend to be in EGA mode most of the time because software has to be
rewritten to use REAL VGA capabilities. There are more and more REAL
VGA applications being written daily.
VGA mode itself has several modes i.e. 640 x 480 w/sixteen colors, 320
x 200 w/256 colors (WOW the shading) and some others.
The VGA board has TWO eproms located at C0000 to C7FFF which in effect
is an extention of EGA (EGA used C0000 to C3FFF) so we can forget about
the lower half of the C0000 area for use when providing expanded (LIM
EMS) memory.
Most VGA boards occupies (not necessarily always uses) the area from
A0000 to C7FFF (160k!).
IBM 's VGA in the PS/2 machines don't occupy the C0000 to C7FFF area
because the BIOS supports it directly.
